Current Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer activities are often available in the following areas:

  • Preparing Food - 7 days a week from 10 to 1 pm. Must be 9 years old or older.
  • Working with children in the Day Care - 5 days a week from 9:30 to 1 pm.  Must be 14 years old or older.
  • Tutoring and/or mentoring in the children and youth programs.  Must be 16 years old or older.
  • Sorting clothes in Martha's Outfitters - Tuesday through Saturday from 9 to 3 pm.  Must be 16 years old or older.
  • Staffing McKenna's Wagon, mobile soup kitchen - 7 days a week from 4:45 to 6:45 pm.  Must be 15 years old or older.
  • Organize an event

Our ability to serve the community is based on the hard work of our volunteers and many supporters. In the event that you are unable to come in for your scheduled volunteer shift please contact the Volunteer Program Assistant so that Martha's Table can make other arrangements. We ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice.

Volunteers are greatly needed in the following areas

Flexible McKenna's Wagon Drivers
  • Time Commitment - 4:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
  • Must have flexible schedule, the vans run every day; Driver spots book up about one week in advance but we often have last minute cancellations.  You can also create a regular monthly schedule.
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License
  • Must be over 21 years old
  • Willing to undergo informal Driver Captain Training
  • Willing to make a long-term commitment; 6 months to a year.
Children's Program Tutor
  • Time Commitment – 2 x per week/ school year commitment
  • Shifts available - 4-5 p.m., Monday through Thursday
  • Provide individual and small group tutoring to students
  • Must pass a criminal background test and have record of current TB test
Volunteer Event Organizer

As a VEO (Volunteer Event Organizer), you contribute greatly to the character of your event; in other words – your event is what you make it. Engage your local community in volunteerism as together you raise funds, collect canned goods or coordinate a clothing drive for Martha's Table. Let's get started!

Event Ideas:

  • Host a Party with a Purpose: get your friends to bring canned food, piece of clothing or write a check for the amount they would spend on a night out to dinner.  
  • Canned Food Drive: collect canned food in your neighborhood or apartment building, suggestioned canned good are found here.
  • Clothing Drive: Host a clothing drive party or "donate your old winter coat" party.  Donation guidelines are found here.
  • Children's Toy Drive: Children's Christmas/winter wishlists will be posted soon.

School or Court-Mandated Community Service

As availability in our schedule allows, Martha's Table is able to accommodate those completing school or court mandated community service. Prior to your arrival, you must schedule an appointment with the Volunteer Program Assistant to receive approval to volunteer at Martha's Table, complete our Community Service Orientation, and discuss necessary paperwork and tracking of hours.
